Summertime … Um, Fun Times? by Darla Luke

Summertime here on the farm is busy. We are in the middle of our annual hay harvesting, and since we don’t hire help, it’s all family, all the time. Our annual yield can be as little as 40 and as much as 50 ton. Last year we had 2,435 bales … selling most of it, thank goodness!

It’s a time of bonding for our family, dinners are chaotic and crazy, everybody’s tired and can’t wait until the last bale is in the barn. Yes, it’s a lot of work, but I wouldn’t trade it for a house in the city for all the money in the bank.

How is your summer so far? Have you taken a trip (or more than one trip)? I’d love to hear about it 🙂

About Darla Luke

Darla Luke spent her childhood making up stories in her head, when she wasn't devouring every book she could get her hands on. If someone would have told her she'd be a writer when she grew up, she would have laughed herself silly. Now, writing is her passion, and she loves telling stories (especially ghost stories) and believes they all should have a happy ending.
